If an artist or photographer sign the mat around the image, which they sell, they use pencil?
Or they have to use a pencil? What should be used? Is it even matter? I would think that could be a professional pen, pencil, but I see used more often. ?
To your question to answer, pencil, there is less contrast on the back ground. You do not want your signature to compete with the art / photo. It just looks more sophisticated.
